In Kenya, a woman is being celebrated as a hero after she was injured while rescuing her employer’s infant from a group of aggressive creatures.
Lilian Akinyi, a houseworker in Nakuru, was at her employer's home when she noticed about 20 aggressive animals approaching the area where the child was sleeping. Acting quickly, Akinyi ran to save the baby. During the rescue, one of the animals attacked her, biting her twice on the left arm.
Akinyi, who has worked at the household for three years, shared that this was not the first time she had encountered such a threat, though previous incidents were not as severe. As a mother of five, she relies on her job to provide for her family. After being bitten, her employer helped stop the bleeding and called for an ambulance to take her to the hospital. Akinyi was treated for her injuries and received tetanus shots.
Despite her recovery, Akinyi is now worried about being unable to work while her arm heals, leaving her unsure how she will support her children. Additionally, the local wildlife service in Kenya does not provide compensation for those injured by wild animals, leaving Akinyi to seek assistance from well-wishers to continue caring for her family.
