Muslim Community Mourns Leaders Lost in Ghana Helicopter Crash

A devastating helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, has left Ghana in shock, taking the lives of several senior government officials. Among those who perished were two highly respected Muslim leaders: Alhaji Dr Mohammed Murtala Ibrahim, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Co-ordinator.

Reports suggest the tragedy unfolded mid-air, with the helicopter exploding before plunging into a forested area. All passengers were burnt beyond recognition, prompting the government to order a thorough forensic investigation to confirm each victim’s identity. The remains are being sent to South Africa for DNA analysis, a process expected to take several days, exceeding the Islamic guideline of burial within three days.

The Muslim community has understandably urged for immediate burial in line with Shari’ah, while authorities maintain that proper identification is necessary to prevent mistakes, especially since the deceased include both Muslims and non Muslims.
