In the capital city of Sanaa, Yemen, tens of thousands turned out Thursday to celebrate the birth of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.
The Houthi movement organized the massive gathering, with streets awash in green banners, chants, and displays of religious devotion. Rebel leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi addressed the crowd during the event.
Farther north, in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, thousands of Kurds gathered in Irbil for the same occasion. The city center came alive with traditional chants and drums as worshippers marked the celebration beneath the historic citadel, where a towering sign displayed the Prophet’s name in Arabic.
