Kabila met with AFC/M23 leaders
Joseph Kabila, who led the Democratic Republic of Congo from 2001 to 2019, met on May 27, 2025 with leaders of the AFC/M23 coalition fighting President Félix Tshisekedi.

In the early hours of May 26, AFC/M23 confirmed that Kabila had arrived in the city of Goma. Initially, he held talks with his entourage, who planned a plan for the areas controlled by the coalition.

Kabila's associates reported that after planning this plan, on May 27 he "received" the leader of the AFC/M23, Corneille Nangaa, his deputy Bertrand Bimwa, and another senior leader in the coalition.

Kabila's meeting with the leaders of the AFC/M23 was said to have been a kind of greeting of peace, signaling that they could hold more in-depth talks in the future.

Since Kabila arrived in Goma, no photos or videos of him have been released. The website Reconstruire RDC, which he set up, publishes limited information about his activities, and others are provided by his close associates.

Reconstruire RDC informed the media that starting on May 28, the politician will begin a series of talks with Congolese people, with the aim of hearing their views on how to achieve security in the country.

Among those Kabila has planned to speak with are politicians, DRC officials, security officials, traditional leaders, ethnic leaders, journalists, women's groups, and religious and church leaders.

Those close to the politician explain that he wants to speak with all those who can contribute to restoring peace in the DRC, and that once the dialogue program is over, he will know what to do next.

It is expected that once all the programs Kabila has planned are over, he will hold a press conference in Goma, and all those who wish to attend will be notified in advance so that they can prepare.
