During an interview with French TV channel Canal+ on Saturday, the 26 year old expressed that his performances this year could earn him a spot among the nominees for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, which honors the best footballer of the year.
“I’ve had a historic season,” Hakimi said, adding that he feels he “deserves the Ballon d’Or.”
The Moroccan star netted 11 goals in all competitions this year, an exceptional feat for a defender, as he pointed out.
Following a season in which Paris Saint Germain lifted the Champions League trophy, the club boasts an impressive nine players on the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or.
