Haitian Gang Boss “Barbecue” and U.S. Citizen Indicted in Sanctions Evasion Plot

Jimmy Chérizier, one of Haiti’s most notorious gang leaders and widely known as “Barbecue,” has directly confronted U.S. authorities after being indicted by a federal grand jury for violating sanctions and funding gang activity in the crisis-stricken Caribbean nation.

In a video statement, Chérizier boldly declared, “My name is Jimmy Chérizier, BBQ. If the FBI wants me, I’m here.”

The U.S. Department of Justice unsealed the indictment on Tuesday, alleging that Chérizier and American citizen Bazile Richardson orchestrated a “broad conspiracy” to channel money from the Haitian diaspora to bankroll gang violence.
