Gen Muhoozi wishes President Kagame a happy birthday
The Chief of Staff of the Ugandan Army, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has wished President Paul Kagame a happy birthday, thanking him for being an exemplary leader in Rwanda and Africa.
Gen Muhoozi, who is the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, said on October 23, 2025, “Happy birthday Mr. Paul Kagame. May you live long.”
The soldier continued, “Thank you for your exemplary leadership that has been a beacon for Rwanda, the region and Africa. May the friendship and partnership between our two countries continue to grow.”
President Kagame celebrated his 68th birthday on October 23, 2025. Of the years he has lived on Earth, 33 have been spent in Uganda, where he and his parents fled in November 1961.
President Kagame studied in Uganda until high school, when he joined Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and other fighters in the liberation struggle for Uganda that began in February 1981 and ended in March 1986.
When he began leading the liberation struggle in Rwanda in 1990, he was a Major. At the time, he had just returned from military training in the United States, and in Nyagatare, he found other Rwandans who had already joined the struggle.
Gen Muhoozi cites President Kagame as one of his role models, and considers him a father figure and brother to President Museveni.
When Gen Muhoozi visited Rwanda in March 2022, President Kagame presented him with 10 cows. A year later, the soldier announced that some of them had given birth, bringing the total to 17.
