Gen Mubarakh Muganga and his African colleagues met in Kenya
The Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwandan Armed Forces, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, attended the African Chiefs of Defence Staff Meeting which will be held in Kenya from 29 May 2025. The meeting was officially opened by President Dr. William Samoei Ruto of Kenya, and was attended by the Chiefs of Defence Staff of 38 countries and the Commanders of the United States Forces in Africa. President Ruto described the meeting as a sign of the willingness of African countries to join forces in addressing security challenges. He said, “When a country or region is weakened, the consequences cross borders, disrupting social, economic and other forms of development. True security in Africa must be a continental agenda and achieved through cooperation.” The head of the US Africa Command, Gen Michael Langley, stressed that the tradition of cooperation among African countries in addressing security challenges should continue. “It is important to continue this tradition, and to reinforce the importance of an African-led approach to addressing common security challenges,” he said. The African Chiefs of Staff Meeting was initiated by the United States in 2017. It is the second time it has been held on the continent, the first being held in Botswana in June 2024.
