The governing body of football, FIFA, has announced that since the launch of its FIFA Forward Program in 2016, it has invested more than U.S.$1 billion in African football. Speaking at a meeting of the Confederation of African Football in Kinshasa, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said there is a “growing presence” of African football on the world stage, while committing to further develop the game in the region.
Infantino revealed that dozens of FIFA Academies are expected to open across Africa by 2027 under its Talent Development Scheme and that the Football for Schools Program is already active in more than 40 African countries.
