Three Spanish tourists in Egypt were caught posing naked at the Pyramids of Giza.
The men were arrested by the country’s police while they were monitoring the security of visitors to the pyramids, which are among the world’s most popular tourist attractions.
The men have defended themselves, saying they were unaware that it was illegal and that they were doing so as a way to preserve the monument.
They said, “We took off our shorts and underwear as if to preserve the monument. We did not intend to offend the Egyptians and we did not know that what we did could lead to inappropriate behavior in a public place.”
The men were immediately arrested and released on bail of more than $160.
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred, as in 2018, pictures were taken of a woman and a man climbing the pyramids naked, and in 2015, a German tourist was permanently banned from visiting the pyramids again for taking nude photos.
