Players of Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, are set to receive $100,000 (£75,000) each in cash rewards following their triumph at the Fiba Women’s AfroBasket Championship held over the weekend in Ivory Coast.
During a special reception in their honour, Vice President Kashim Shettima also announced that each team member would be given a three bedroom apartment.
Nigeria clinched the title after defeating Mali 78-64 on Sunday, marking their seventh AfroBasket championship win and earning them a spot at next year’s Fiba Women’s World Cup.
Last month, the Super Falcons, the national women’s football team, were also promised a similar bonus after their victory at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon).
Additionally, each member of D’Tigress’s coaching and technical team will receive $50,000 and a flat, as announced during the ceremony held at the State House in Abuja.
