At least 30 civilians have lost their lives in a wave of brutal assaults carried out by suspected rebels in Congo’s North Kivu province.
The horrific killings unfolded between Wednesday and Friday in Bapere village, a military official confirmed on Saturday.
According to the area’s military administrator, more than 30 people were killed, while around 100 others remain in captivity.
A local civil society leader revealed that several homes were set ablaze and most victims were slaughtered with knives.
These attacks records yet another wave of bloodshed associated to the Islamic State backed Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
Just last month, the ADF were accused of a deadly assault on a Catholic church in neighboring Ituri province, where nearly 40 people were killed.
