Argentina Considers Messi-Inspired 1,000 Peso Note to Mark World Cup Triumph

Following Argentina’s unforgettable 4-2 penalty shootout win over France in the 2022 World Cup final, the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina has reportedly been exploring ways to honor this great historic victory, according to El Financiero.

One proposal that has captured public attention is a specially designed 1,000 peso banknote featuring Lionel Messi’s smiling face. The design, which has gone viral, has fans excited about the possibility of it becoming a real part of Argentina’s currency.

El Financiero reports that part of the appeal behind choosing the 1,000 peso denomination is that it starts with the number ‘10’ , a nod to Messi’s iconic jersey number.

On one side of the note, Messi is shown grinning, while the other side features the nickname of the current national squad under coach Lionel Scaloni, “La Scaloneta.”Argentina has a history of issuing commemorative currency. Coins were produced in 1978 to celebrate the country’s first World Cup win, and again on the 50th anniversary of the passing of Eva Perón, the former First Lady.

Under Lionel Scaloni’s leadership, Argentina has enjoyed a golden era, winning the 2021 Copa America, the 2022 Finalissima at Wembley, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
