African Leaders Roll Out Bold Plan to Tackle Cholera Crisis

A new emergency response framework has been introduced by African leaders to address the alarming surge in cholera cases.

The initiative, unveiled on Tuesday, will run from September 2025 through February 2026.It was jointly developed by the Africa CDC and the World Health Organization as part of a coordinated health strategy.

With an ambitious target, the plan aims to cut cholera related deaths by 90 percent and completely eliminate the disease in 20 African countries by 2030.

The official launch took place at a high level conference in Lusaka, Zambia’s capital.Zambia’s president, Hakainde Hichilema, who serves as the African Union’s cholera champion, presided over the launch.
