Juventus signs defender of Rwandan origin

Italian club Juventus FC has signed Rwandan-born defender Shane Van Aarle from Dutch club FC Eindhoven.

The 18-year-old, whose mother is from Rubavu, has come through the youth ranks of Belgian clubs Club Brugge and Royal Excel Mouscron before moving to Dutch club FC Eindhoven, where he rose to the first team.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano, who is well-known for his coverage of European transfers, has revealed that the player has been signed as part of a deal to begin negotiations for a new contract.

He said: “Juventus have signed young Dutch defender Van Aarle as part of a deal to begin negotiations for a new contract, with a view to making a long-term offer.”

In his youth, Shane Van Aarle played for the Dutch National Team, but FIFA rules allow him to also play for Rwanda if he so chooses.
